Muscle Cramps from Working Out? Should You Take Magnesium Supplements?? Hanukkah Challenge
Magnesium.
Suffering from muscle cramps? The first thing that comes to mind is to take a magnesium supplement. But does it really help?
In routine blood tests you cannot check whether there is a magnesium deficiency, because it is an intracellular mineral. Its level in the bloodstream does not reflect what is happening inside the muscle.
Therefore, if you suffer from muscle cramps, it is worth trying a magnesium supplement to see how it affects you - trial and error.
Did you know? Calcium is also linked to muscle cramps, so a magnesium supplement is not necessarily what will help. Maybe your dietary calcium levels are actually low - try checking that and increasing the amount of calcium you eat.
Dietary sources rich in magnesium: green vegetables, legumes, nuts, almonds, avocado, banana, soy, oats...
